After somebody shared a photo of a homeIess dog sleeping with a stuffed animal, the image went viraI

The heartbreaking sight of a stray dog clutching to a shattered teddy bear captivated the country, but it also caused controversy among animal advocates about the canine's treatment.

The stray dog fell asleep on the pavement using the abandoned teddy bear as a cushion.

This shot was taken by Yvette Holzbach, who wrote the following commentary for it: "This is a stray dog seeking solace in a broken-down, abandoned toy. How many of the canines we see act similarly after serving their function and being abandoned on the street?

The photo went viral as a result of people's strong emotions and curiosity about what had happened to the dog.

Though many sympathized, several questioned why Yvette didn't help the puppy rather than simply snapping a photo and walking away.

Her remark perfectly captures the gravity of the issue on a national scale as well as the sheer volume of stray dogs in this region.

seeks out everlasting residences

Yvette works for a nonprofit called Forgotten Puppies of the 5th Ward and spends her time rescuing abandoned dogs in one of Houston, Texas's poorest districts.

She and her coworkers patrol the neighborhood, take pictures of stray dogs to assist owners be discovered, neuter or spay them, take care of any essential medical needs, and most importantly, find foster or permanent homes for some of the dogs.

But Yvette and her colleagues can't manage the sheer volume of stray dogs on the streets. She responded to everyone who criticized her on Facebook by posting the following statement.

"On one feeding route, we may provide food for up to 50 stray dogs. "Of those 50 dogs, we are lucky if we are able to save one," she said on the website for Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward. "The sad fact is, there are not enough foster homes to put these dogs into."

Later it was discovered that Mr. Calvin, a neighborhood resident, had been feeding many pets, including Teddy, the dog in the picture.

Yvette said that the 87-year-old had rescued several dogs over the years and once had as many as 20 in his property.

"I'm hoping that by sharing this photo, people would become more aware of the predicament of the street dog. Despite the fact that we are aware of how difficult it will be, we continue to work for the day when no dog will have to battle to live on the streets.

The terrible news that animal hero Mr. Calvin died away in 2018 was revealed in Yvette's update to this tale last year. However, because to Yvette and her team, Mr. Calvin's generosity and care for these defenseless dogs will always be remembered.
